Dog Valley is about 20 miles west of Reno and 30 miles Northeast of Truckee. The fastest way from any direction will be off I-80 in Verdi, Nevada. From Truckee and the west, take exit 2 for Verdi, right on Bus I-80, after 1 mile turn left on Bridge St, after 0.5 miles turn right on Dog Valley Rd. This becomes dirt after 0.9 miles (a bit bumpy for passengers cars, but Subarus and all trucks and SUVs are fine). After 2.2 miles, bear right on Rd 002 (aka Long Valley Rd), down the hill for 0.75 miles then turn right on Rd 010 into Dog Valley. You will arrive at Base-camp after 2 miles (GPS coordinates in UTM 10 S 0754871 4384037 or 39deg34min06sec N 120deg01min58sec W)
From Reno and the east, take exit 5 for Verdi, go straight through the roundabout, travel for 2.5 miles, take a right on Bridge St and follow as above.
Dog Valley can be found on Google maps by typing in "Dog Valley, Ca" or "Henness Pass Rd and Long Valley Rd Sierraville, 96126", but it does not show the roads well.
There is no fee for the D.V.D.M., but we hope you make a contribution to your favorite animal rescue organization or charity in lieu of a fee. When you make a charitable contribution, please post it anonymously on the blog to encourage others. Karma people. Dog will be watching.
Registration is needed for planning purposes. Send an e-mail titled "registration" to voojack@dogvalleydogmarathon.org with names of people and dogs when you are sure you will attend.
